Henry’s Name

Henry’s name was a bit of a surprise to us. Just like his gender! Prior to his birth we had discussed names until we were sick of names. We ended up just having a long list of boy names and a long list of girl names and deciding to wait until we met our baby to name him. I had wanted to pick one boy’s name and one girl’s name and have it ready so we’d know his name right away; but no name that we picked ever felt right. I never felt at peace with any final selection. The planner in me was not happy!

But we did have our names somewhat sorted by most favorite to least favorite so I pretty much expected that we’d end up choosing the names from the top of our list. Henry was not that name! But when he was born, Steven and I both thought independently of each other that he looked like a Henry! And once we talked about it and realized we had the same thought, it was settled. Then I came up with the middle name (also from the list) which I thought was a new combination of first and middle for us and it definitely felt like the right name finally! Steven says we’d talked about Henry Isaac at some point before. (I do not remember that at all!)

Anyway, I was glad we ended up not picking a name before he was born because it most likely would not have suited him the way Henry does!

Marlowe was going to be Frederick until I was about 30 weeks. And his name just popped into my head, and it was so right. And he is SUCH a Marlowe. :D

I LOVE the name Henry, by the way. Very cute.
