Kids: Emily

Emily is almost exactly five and a half years old! She is very smart. Being the oldest, she has also become a bit of a mother figure and definitely my big helper. She carries around Ephraim when he’s fussy and brings him to me. She entertains the little boys and tries to keep Will out of trouble! If you could hear her fuss over her baby brothers you’d think she IS a mom! Telling Will, “No, no, Will! No no!” or cooing over Ephraim, “Hi there cutie baby boy! You’re so sweet, yes you are!” She adores them! She thinks it is hilarious that when she grabs Will’s chin and plants a big kiss on his cheek he makes a big show of wiping it off again!

Emily is the one that started reading simple words at two and short books at three and chapter books at four. She can certainly go through the reading material in no time! She’s nearly finished this year’s worth of school books and mostly all on her own. She’s also nearly done with math for the year. She thrives in academics, loves to learn, and she’s highly self-motivated. (By the way, she does not get this from me.) I love seeing her soak up book after book and learn things just because she wants to! It’s a wonderful thing!

Emily is also a bit of a computer nerd, thanks to her daddy. He got her started early and now she can do anything she wants on the computer by herself. She writes emails or stories, looks up things she’s interested in on the internet, prints out coloring pages for herself and her siblings, and is amazingly good at a wide variety of computer games. She surfs the web of her own accord and likes to find new things to see and do as often as possible. (Yes, we keep a very close eye on all of this!)

I love having a child who can think things through so intelligently and has very interesting conversations with us. She definitely keeps us on our toes!
