Kids: Will

Will is 1 year and 10 months old. He’ll be two on December 16th!

Will is our little chunkster! He doesn’t look particularly fat or anything, but he feels like lead when you pick him up. He is definitely a very solid boy! He loves his food and can put up quite the loud protest if he is required to wait for anytime at all between when he is put into his booster chair for a meal and when he actually gets his food.

Will has never been ahead of the curve as far as development goes. He leaves all that stuff to his sisters and prefers to be very laid back about doing anything new. He didn’t walk until, oh, 16 months? (Might have been 17.) And still has almost no interest in talking. He communicates via grunts (very cave-man-like), and screeches when he’s really serious (usually involving wanting food). He knows a few signs and uses them occasionally, but we haven’t been very consistent with signing so it isn’t extremely helpful at this point.

He does have a few words that he can say, but he doesn’t use them in his day-to-day interactions. He’ll say them for me when he’s in a good mood and I’m trying to get him to say his list of words. Beyond that, he doesn’t say anything. His list of words is Will, Mama, Daddy, Mehmee (Emily), Baba (Diaper), Bah (Bye), and that’s about it. He has said “Bye” in proper context maybe two times over the space of the last 6 months so… it is rare. He understands most of what we say as far as I can tell and knows things like nose, feet, eye, ear… etc etc. You know the drill. I do hope he will start talking more soon! I’m not used to all this waiting around for these things!

I have worked with him on colors a bit and he will repeat after me “geen,” “wehwoh,” and “boo.” (Green, yellow, and blue.) I’m not sure he really recognizes the colors just yet, but it’s cute seeing him point with me and say the colors.

Will loves books and puzzles and cars. He sleeps in a big boy bed and has transitioned to his bed really well. So far he hasn’t tried getting out and he goes down for naps and for bed very easily. He doesn’t argue- he seems to love his sleep!

Despite his lack of motivation to walk and talk, he is full of personality and is a ray of sunshine! He’s all smiles, grins, kisses, and hugs. He gives out kisses and hugs freely and is a very warm-hearted little boy. He has the cutest smile complete with dimples and mischievous bright blue eyes!

One of his more angelic looks. Those lashes!

Playing with cars in the kitchen.
