What I’ve Been Up To

So much! Since we moved it’s like our lives exploded or something. Or maybe school just started? Yeah, that could be it! Anyway, homeschool moms’ meetings, science class at church, moms’ night out, symphony rehearsals and concerts- all of these things have just started up in the past month! It’s a lot of fun and I’m enjoying getting to know other homeschool moms from church and participating in the homeschool co-op science class at church. The girls are loving that! We’ve also gone to the Chattanooga Zoo and the Creative Discovery Museum in recent weeks and that was lots of fun!

On top of all that, a group of women and I have started an ICAN chapter here in Chattanooga so we are starting the beginnings of that process and hope to start meetings soon. I have been SO excited about this! I am a co-leader of the chapter and have been working on our website (with a little help- thank you, Steven!). The doulas and midwives involved already are going to make it a very rich and productive chapter! We’ve got some really amazing and inspiring women involved and I’m loving doing something that feels pro-active in this area.

In less exciting news (but fun for me!) I’ve learned to make my own deodorant and diaper cream. I haven’t mentioned the deodorant before because, well, I didn’t want people to think I’m weird. Then I realized… Who am I kidding!? Myself, probably! Plus, I wasn’t sure it was even going to work and if it didn’t, it wasn’t worth mentioning and being a weirdo and then it not even working! But I’ve been using it for several months now and it works well for me and I like it! I use the recipe here, but use a cute little jar for it similar to this. As for the diaper cream, I just made it tonight and have yet to use it so the jury is still out as far as it actually working goes, but it was easy to make and worth a try I think.

Today I decorated a little bit for fall. I have a fall wreath for the door (it’s not hung yet, but we’ll figure that out soon), and a couple of candles and a felt leaf garland (sounds strange, but it’s fun!) on our stair banister. It felt good to celebrate the changing seasons and add a little color to the house. The candles smell really good too. (Pumpkin spice, of course!) And now we’re about to make pumpkin spice lattes and settle in to watch a movie. (Or something.) Have a great weekend and Lord’s Day tomorrow!

I recently put up our Fall decorations, too! I love it almost as much as decorating for Christmas. :)

I would try the diaper ointment but I just realized that we rarely, rarely use it. Which is good... means my kids haven't had rashes. But I'll keep it in mind if I ever do need some.

I love the look of the website. Perhaps my favorite title is "unecesarean" (ha!). I like the background being WHITE -- it looks professional & is easy to read. The ICAN boards for Atlanta are a little bit confusing & hard to navigate, and not that pretty either. But, I've seen other boards with similar looks, so many there's a certain necessity to that, I don't know. Way to go being a co-chapter leader. Are you hoping to have monthly meetings? I was never able to go to ours b/c of the distance + kids + schedule, but they sound so great. Fun & Informative. I hope that venture goes well!
